Charlemagne Capital would like to invite you to a webinar on Thursday 5th February 2015 at 2pm GMT when Ian Simmons, lead portfolio advisor for Magna Latin America Fund will be outlining our process for finding successful investment opportunities in Latin American equities.
-Experience and stability of the team (lead portfolio adviser Ian Simmons has been with Charlemagne for 11 years)
-Consistent performance (outperforming peers and index in both rising and falling market environments)
-Successful stock picking (aimed at discovering the best 45 well managed companies across the market cap space with robust business models which can produce good returns even in challenged macro environments);
-A scalable strategy which at c. US$150m can take advantage of all the opportunity set, not so readily available to some of the larger funds
Latin American markets are offering interesting opportunities for stock pickers and we have taken advantage of recent share price declines to initiate new positions. Latin America has underperformed the MSCI Global Emerging Market index by 30% in the last 3 years, and MSCI Asia ex-Japan by closer to 50%. On a twelve month view, the majority of Latin American economies should be showing an acceleration as policy makers implement the necessary actions to restore positive momentum. Earnings expectations are also looking more realistic. Falling commodity prices have impacted the region, but it is encouraging that the sector is now only 20% of the benchmark, down from above 50% in 2008. This is a better reflection of the economies that the benchmark represents and mirrors the huge broadening of the opportunity set.
With the ability to invest across the market cap spectrum, and with no benchmark restrictions, we are confident that companies within the region are capable of generating positive returns for investors.
